This week we are in Sound 80 Studios, 25th St E, Minneapolis, in 1979 for Lipps, Inc.'s "Funkytown", first released on their debut "Mouth To Mouth" LP on Casablanca Records...

"Lipps, Inc. were a band formed in service of the talents of Minneapolis-based musician/composer/producer Steve Greenberg. He recruited Cynthia Johnson as the singer, the former Miss Black Minnesota of 1976, and various local musicians, for what would become a band with a No.1 record in 28 countries. It may surprise some of you that The Clash sometimes played "Funkytown" at sound checks - that is, they played it themselves on their instruments !" - KV
