KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are back in Sun Studio, 706 Union Ave, Memphis, Tennessee, in 1956 for Warren Smith's "Ubangi Stomp", first released on Sun as a b-side on both 45 & 78RPM, on 24th September 1956... "Mississippi-born Warren Smith moved to West Memphis after being discharged from the US Air Force. A last minute addition to make up the 4 tracks expected at a Sun session, Warren never cared for "Ubangi Stomp", but the jukebox never lies and the dance floor shows no mercy, and so as the years passed and the spins continued, it became one of the jewels in the rockabilly crown. In the late 1960s, he became addicted to pills and alcohol and served time in Alabama for robbery, dying of a heart attack in 1980 aged 47 - which to a certain contingent only enhanced his reputation further!" - KV
