KOSMO's VINYL of the Week: This week we are in Federal Studios, 220 Marcus Garvey Drive, Kingston, Jamaica, sometime in 1956, for Theo Beckford's "Easy Snapping", produced by Coxsone Dodd and not released until 1959... "Trench Town born and raised Theophilus Beckford recorded what is either the first ska record or the 'missing link' between ska and the New Orleans based shuffle music that inspired it. Produced by Coxsone Dodd, arranged and supervised by Ernest Ranglin, it is for sure the first Studio One recording. In 1956, recordings were cut on to acetates for sound system use only, and so it was 3 years before it was actually released as a record for sale." - KV
