KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in A&R Studios, 112 West 48th St. New York City, on 7th September 1962 for Quincy Jones's "Soul Bossa Nova", first released on the "Big Band Bossa Nova" LP on Mercury...
"I have never watched an Austin Powers flick, but can imagine that for some of you, its association with this record has spoiled it. This can hardly be blamed on Quincy Jones, who recorded it before Mike Myers was even born. The first film it actually appeared it was Sidney Lumet's "The Pawnbroker" in 1964.
There is no denying Quincy's talent or pedigree and on this one, musicians chosen include Rahsaan Roland Kirk on flute and Lalo Schifrin on piano (probably a few other notable names too). Play Loud."
