KOSMO's VINYL of the Week: This week we are in Air Studios, Hampstead. North London in late 1983 for Madness' "My Name Is Michael Caine", produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley and first released as a single in January 1984 on Stiff... "If not the only Madness single not to feature Suggs on lead vocal, this one is the first with Carl Smyth (a.k.a.Chas Smash) taking over. I was with Stiff Records boss Dave Robinson when he first saw the then North London Invaders at the Hope & Anchor in Islington. He decided to sign them, then and there. Also featuring the actual voice of Michael Caine, this one shows off their early influence of Eno-era Roxy Music." - KV
