Mac Rebennack (AKA Dr John) grew up in New Orleans 3rd Ward and started recording at age 14 or 15, circa 1956. He soon became a writer and producer, but it would take until 1973, with this record, for him to front a big hit record of his own.

I think of it as one of the finest examples of someone being able to make a hit record without having to compromise their musical identity in any way - it's all about what he was always about - New Orleans R&B." - KV
