KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in New York City in early 1957 with writers/producers Leiber & Stoller, for The Drifters' "Fools Fall In Love", first released as a single on Atlantic Records... "The Drifters must be one of the only groups to have 3 number ones with 3 different singers and although Clyde McPhatter and Ben E. King are remembered by many, Johnny Moore, heard here, is often forgotten. In fact, Moore left the group and came back later (as did some other members at various times) and was still making Drifters' hits in the early 1970s. Shout to "Rockin' & Driftin'" LP cover designer Marvin Israel (I suspect those girls are actually Elvis Presley fans)." - KV

KOSMO's VINYL of the Week: This week we are in Air Studios, Hampstead. North London in late 1983 for Madness' "My Name Is Michael Caine", produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley and first released as a single in January 1984 on Stiff... "If not the only Madness single not to feature Suggs on lead vocal, this one is the first with Carl Smyth (a.k.a.Chas Smash) taking over. I was with Stiff Records boss Dave Robinson when he first saw the then North London Invaders at the Hope & Anchor in Islington. He decided to sign them, then and there. Also featuring the actual voice of Michael Caine, this one shows off their early influence of Eno-era Roxy Music." - KV
KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are at Headley Grange, a former poorhouse in the English village of Headley, Hampshire in early 1974 for Led Zeppelin's "Trampled Under Foot", first released on the "Physical Graffiti" LP in February 1975... "In my early teens, I paid no mind to Led Zeppelin or any of the other 'heavy' groups, and then, when 1976 happened, what was once passive indifference became open dismissal. But once married, living in New York and exposed to Zeppelin via radio, I had to admit that all the fuss had not been for nothing. This is their response to Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" and where John Bonham's love of James Brown is on display for all to hear. Play Loud!" - KV
KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are on the East Coast 'organ circuit' for Jimmy McGriff's "The Last Minute", produced by Joe Lederman and first released in 1963 on the "One Of Mine" LP by Juggy Murray's Sue label... "Philadelphia-born blues organist Jimmy McGriff eventually moved to Newark and signed with the New York City based Sue Label in 1962. In the early 1960s, there was a thriving organ-based jazz scene amongst the black communities on the US East Coast, with numerous small clubs having their own 'in house' Hammond B3 organ. When released on UK Sue in 1964, this one was a big favourite with the pirate radio stations - rightly so !" - KV
