KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in New York City on June 23rd, 1967, for Aretha Franklin's "Chain Of Fools" written by Don Covay and first released on Atlantic Records... "When Atlantic's Jerry Wexler asked Don Covay if he had a song for Otis Redding, Covay presented "Chain Of Fools", a gospel song he had written in the 50s. Wexler decided it was better suited to Aretha and even a massive Otis fan like myself has never complained - although, I reckon Otis could've made it work too. For some reason this was not a hit in the UK, and so I discovered it on the superb "Lady Soul" LP." - KV

KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in the Bakersfield, California of 1963 for Buck Owens and his Buckeroos' "Close Up The Honky Tonks", first released on Capitol Records... "Texas-born Alvis Edgar "Buck" Owens (Jnr) was one of the most successful exponents of the Bakersfield Sound, a rock'n'roll influenced form of Country Music. At the time this was recorded, Nashville favoured a heavily orchestrated sound, and this was seen (or heard) as something quite radical. It was also quite influential - John Fogerty, Gram Parsons and, later, Dwight Yoakam all had the ears turned by its harder sound. Buck's guitarist and backing vocalist, Don Rich, deserves a special shout out, as I think it's Don's harmony that makes this one so special." - KV
KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in Plaza Sound Studios, 55 W. 50th St. New York City, in either August or September of 1976 for Blondie's "Rip Her To Shreds", produced by Richard Gottehrer and first released on the Private Stock "Blondie" debut LP... "One of my earliest jobs as press and promotion man was to help the publicist Glenn Coulson promote the first Blondie album in the UK. At that time, they were very much as part of the American punk scene as The Ramones or anyone else. Their first LP has remained my favourite of theirs, with a much rawer feel than their later output." - KV
KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in the England of today and yesterday, for Arthur & The Emigrants' (featuring Ray Davies) "The Future (Doo Wop Version)", which will be released as part of a 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of The Kinks' "Arthur" on October 25th 2019... "I first heard this on a compilation CD recently sent to me from Manchester by my pal Dave Bennett. At first, I thought it was a new band who had decided to use a Ray Davies style vocal with a doo wop style backing. What a great idea, I thought, and what a refreshingly optimistic lyric in these cynical times. Turned out it is Ray Davies ! And that is about all I know. Is it a brand new version of an old song - I have no idea ? But I like it !" - KV
