KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in Hollywood High School, Los Angeles on the 4th June 1978 for a live recording by Elvis Costello of his "Accidents Will Happen", featuring Steve Naive on piano. First released as a giveaway 45 with Elvis' "Armed Forces" LP on Radar... "In my early days at Stiff, Elvis and I were quite close, being more the same age than most of the other folks around. In fact, I plugged in his amp the first time he performed as Elvis Costello, which he did on his own - no band. I also drove out to some suburban spot and picked Steve Naive up for his audition to become an Attraction." - KV

KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in El Barrio (Spanish Harlem) of 1967 for Willie Bobo's original recorded version of Clarence "Sonny" Henry's "Evil Ways", from the "Bobo Motion" LP on Verve... "Willie Bobo was a Puerto Rican percussionist who became one of the primo providers of what became known as the Boogaloo (Bugalu) style, which is basically a mix of Latin, with soul/r'n'b. A cover version of "Evil Ways" was what put Carlos Santana on the map in 1969 and the only time I met Carlos, his face lit up when I mentioned Willie Bobo and he was lavish in his praise. If you're gonna make your first Bobo purchase, I'd suggest something on Verve." - KV
KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in modern day Los Angeles (or are we ?) for Thee Lakesiders' "Parachute", the b-side of their 2018 debut single on Big Crown Records... "I found this one via Google Images of all places. I've always been a sucker for the Pachuco/Pachuca subculture. Surely it's one of the greatest street style looks of all time and goes back at least until the early 1940s. The image I found was, in fact, a still from a 'video' for the Los Angeles based duo Thee Lakesiders, who had recorded a single in Brooklyn. Thats about all I know except I dig it ! I mean the record as well as the look." - KV
KOSMO's VINYL of the Week: This week we are in the London of 19en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willy_Wonka_%26_the_Chocolate_Factory61 for Anthony Newley's "Pop Goes The Weasel" on Decca Records... "Anthony Newley was an actor/singer/songwriter who was an A-List British celebrity when I was growing up. He appeared in David Lean's 1948 "Oliver Twist", had a dozen UK Top Twenty Hits and co-wrote "Goldfinger", "Feelin Good" (Nina Simone), the "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory" musical and was married to Joan Collins ! Not a bad innings for a lad from Hackney". - KV
