KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are down in the New Orleans of 1966 for Lee Dorsey's "Holy Cow", written and produced by Allen Toussaint and first released on the Amy label... "One of my greatest musical achievements was to persuade Lee Dorsey to take leave of running his breakers yard in New Orleans and go on a U.S. Tour opening for The Clash. When Lee arrived for the first show, we were all very excited and I went to check that he was well looked after. "What's his set list look like ?" asked Strummer. "The first four numbers are all Top Ten Hits !" I replied. He was wonderful, both on stage and off - a diamond geezer for sure and if you don't own any of his records - get some !!" - KV

KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in the California of 1976 for the Boston-based, Jonathan Richman led Modern Lovers' "Pablo Picasso", produced by John Cale and from their self-titled LP on Beserkley Records... "In 1976, I actually sent away to California for this record and sho'nuff, Beserkley's Matthew "King" Kaufman (or one of his posse) sent me a copy. One I got it, I don't think it came off the turntable for 2 weeks - I was completely besotted with the 'Modern sound' of 1976 America. I learned later that most of the tracks had been recorded in 1972 and some in 1971 ! Perhaps it's just as well I didn't know that when I sent my money off." - KV
KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in two U.S. States at the same time with Atlanta Georgia's Arrested Development for their first hit - 1992's "Tennessee"... "In the late 80s - early 90s, as far as new releases went, I was mostly buying twelve inch singles, which nearly all contained more than one version of the main tune featured. So with "Tennessee", it is a remix that I am most fond of and familiar with and by the way - what a drum sound/sample ! Having just spent 4 days in Nashville meeting some very fine folks, I thought some kind of a 'shout out' was in order." - KV
KOSMO's VINYL of the Week: This week we're in Akron, Ohio for Bill Allen and The Backbeats 1958 rockabilly classic "Please Give Me Something" on Imperial... "I first came across this greased up floor-shaker on the first "Imperial Rockabillies" LP circa 1977 and probably bought it from Ted Carroll. I'm not sure that The Backbeats even got a credit on the LP, but I've since learned that they were two pals of Bill's and the track was recorded in one take at a local Akron radio station, WCUE. As they say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." - KV
