KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are back in Sun Studio, 706 Union Ave, Memphis, Tennessee, in 1956 for Warren Smith's "Ubangi Stomp", first released on Sun as a b-side on both 45 & 78RPM, on 24th September 1956... "Mississippi-born Warren Smith moved to West Memphis after being discharged from the US Air Force. A last minute addition to make up the 4 tracks expected at a Sun session, Warren never cared for "Ubangi Stomp", but the jukebox never lies and the dance floor shows no mercy, and so as the years passed and the spins continued, it became one of the jewels in the rockabilly crown. In the late 1960s, he became addicted to pills and alcohol and served time in Alabama for robbery, dying of a heart attack in 1980 aged 47 - which to a certain contingent only enhanced his reputation further!" - KV

KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in Compass Point Studios, in the Bahamas, sometime between late 1980 and early 1981 for Tom-Tom-Club's "Genius Of Love", first released on their self-titled debut LP on Sire/Island... "Tom Tom Club was a side project led by Talking Heads husband and wife rhythm section Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz. featuring guitarist Adrian Belew. When released as a single in September 1981, it was a record you could just not escape and didn't want to. Gone for the 12" version here - absolutely irresistible !" - KV
KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in Berlin 2019 for L'Épée's "Lou", from their only LP thus far, titled "Diabolique", which was released in September 2019... "L'Epee means "The Sword" in French and may be best described as an alternative 21st Century Super Group with 1960s influences. What was planned as a solo record for actress Emmanuelle Seigner somehow became a band? Based on its sound, I assume "Lou" is about Mr Reed, but not speaking French I have no idea what is being sung. It was brought to my attention late last year by Manchester's Dave Bennett, and now I've given it a test spin in Paris, I can definitely say "I Dig It !" - KV
KOSMO's VINYL of the Week:
This week we are in Studio Blanqui, Paris in the spring of 1962 for Serge Gainsbourg's "Black Trombone", first released on his "Serge Gainsbourg No.4" LP on Phillips... "Like millions of others outside of France, I had never heard of Serge Gainsbourg until his 1969 smash "Je t'aime", and it wasn't until many years later that I began to investigate further. This one is one of the last from his earliest period when his work was still very much jazz influenced and the Ye Ye sound had yet to be heard in France. By the time you read this, I will hopefully be in Paris myself !" - KV
