MOVING to DIFFERENT TRAINS GALLERY 1 in the Old Depot District
September 1 - 29, 2018
DIFFERENT TRAINS GALLERY 2 at Cornerstone Bank of Decatur is delighted to reintroduce Decaturscapes, first introduced by artist Ruth Franklin & gallerist Shawn Vinson nearly 20 years ago. For the original series, Franklin created a group of original pastel paintings in her distinctive, signature style depicting her favorite buildings, churches and landmarks in Decatur, Georgia. Shortly after immigrating from England, Franklin's colorful & soulful art quickly captured the attention of folks in her adopted hometown. She was commissioned multiple times by the City of Decatur, and the Decatur Arts Alliance invited her to create the poster for the 2000 Decatur Arts Festival & Garden Tour.
Now at the helm of DIFFERENT TRAINS GALLERY, Shawn Vinson (celebrating his 25th year in Decatur & 20 years since the opening of his eponymous gallery on Decatur Square) has invited local artists Sergey Cherepakhin, Jeffrey Lange, Flora Rosefsky and Mark Sandlin to create their own interpretations of this charming city 6 miles east of Atlanta. Vinson will also include some of his own photography in the show, which opens on Friday, May 25, during the Decatur ArtWalk from 5 - 10 PM. As a long-serving board member of Decatur Arts Alliance, he helped start the ArtWalk back in 2000.
DIFFERENT TRAINS GALLERY 2 at Cornerstone Bank of Decatur is the only private art gallery operating in a community bank in the US (that we know of). It's open during normal banking hours, typically Mon - Thu: 9 am - 5 pm and Fri: 9 am - 5 pm. It's open late for special events and closed during bank holidays. Call 404.939.2787 for more info.
