Don't Call it a Comeback...

A quarter of a century celebration…
Back in May of 1998, we opened a little gallery on Decatur Square, which some of you might remember.

25 years (and 3 galleries) later, we’ll celebrate with a 3 day pop-up show at DIFFERENT TRAINS GALLERY, featuring a certain British artist whom I’ve had the privilege of representing (and partnering with) since day one - plus a few others who’ve joined us along the way.

     It’s been 30 years this week since I moved to Atlanta as a young, twenty-something art rep. Our first pop-up show (before anyone was using the term) took place during the 1996 Summer Olympics, near Centennial Park in a former print shop on Luckie Street. Vinson Gallery debuted two years later and lasted for a decade. I then shifted focus to online and on-location art sales, and started providing ‘evidence-based art’ for healthcare facilities and ‘cleared art' for Georgia film and television productions.

In 2017, I co-founded DIFFERENT TRAINS in Decatur’s Old Depot District, and a satellite gallery inside Cornerstone Bank. The pandemic cut those endeavors short in 2020, but I’m happy to announce that DIFFERENT TRAINS will reopen for our anniversary show. We plan to produce quarterly pop-ups, and the gallery will be open by appointment in between events.

Our tenure at the WADDI recently came to a premature end, due to a City of Atlanta zoning ordinance prohibiting art galleries at that location. It’s disappointing on many levels, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to showcase our talented artists, host multiple epic events, and forge many new friendships in Inman Park over the past three years.

My friend Xavier Biggs taught me how to roll with the punches, and regular email blasts and blogposts will now resume. Expect them to be shorter and sweeter, now that I’ve gotten you up to date. This is, embarrassingly, the first blog I've posted in a couple of years... okay, five years! Thank you very much to those who actually noticed. ;)

I hope you can join us the first weekend in May at DIFFERENT TRAINS. Opening night takes place during the Decatur ArtWalk on Friday, May 5th, from 6 to 10pm. The gallery will be open during the Decatur Arts Festival on May 6th (11am - 5pm) and May 7th (noon - 4pm) at 432 East Howard Avenue, no. 24.
