![]() Our man on the street in New York City, Kosmo Vinyl, recently posted a comment on our blog about the Raymond Pettibon Surfers exhibition at Venus Over Manhattan. It's nice to live vicariously through our friends in Manhattan sometimes. Sure, we read about art online at excellent websites such as Artinfo.com, and I enjoy following famed NY critic Jerry Saltz on Facebook - but the personal touch of getting a 'note' from a friend is a fine way to discover a new artist or gallery show I might otherwise miss when scanning the blogs and online art magazines. This exhibition, the first ever to be devoted entirely to the California-based artist's 'surfer paintings', closed a few days ago - but you can still view it online. I liked the short video of the installation, and couldn't help notice all the folks sitting around watching one guy work (reminded me of a construction crew), but that's another story. Here's what Kosmo Vinyl had to say... I know it's not British (although my Arsenal supporting English brother-in-law assures me British surfers now exist), but I'm just back from seeing Raymond Pettibon's "Surfers" at Venus Over Manhattan. I thought they were really cool and so did my 17 year old #2 son. Worth a peek if you're in NYC and while you're at it, right across Madison Ave there's a terrific selection of Warhol's Jackies (Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis) at Blain|Di Donna, above the ever swanky Cafe Carlyle. The most Jackies I've ever seen, including a rare 1968 (red, white and black) collage and acetate combo which was new Warhol on me. A must see for any of us serious Warhol fans." - KV Kind of makes you want to visit New York doesn't it?
And it's hard to believe it's been fifty years since Warhol created that iconic body of work! What exhibitions have you seen lately that you really liked? Let us know in the comments...

Hey Shawn, in case anyone is actually in New York City I've got another recommendation for you - Jean-Michel Basquiat Drawing (work from the Schorr Family Collection) at Aquavella Gallery at 18 East 79th St. Just over 20 works (mostly on paper) and just a few minutes walk from The Met. The more Basquiat I see in person, the greater his talent appears for me to be and some things that I thought might only work on a grand scale work just as well on paper. Check it out if you can !

Of course Basquiat isn't British either, but I'm pretty certain Haiti's closer to Blighty than California. I'm moving in the right direction at least !
